The New York Mets will be closing out a three game series against the Phillies today. The Met have lost the first two games after the Phillies pitching staff showed why they are the best in the league. The Mets lost Jon Niese and Scott Hairston after the game. Both players experienced pulled side muscles. Both are expected to be placed on the disabled list.
Today Mike Pelfrey will get the start for the Mets. He is coming off a lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in which allowed just three runs, He really hasn’t been pitching that bad, but his teammates are not giving him the necessary run support. Pelfrey needs to come out and play hard and get this team a much needed win.
Kyle Kendrick will get the ball for the Phillies tonight looking to get his eighth win of the season. Kendrick is coming off a rare no decision as he went six innings allowing two runs on five hits. He has a record of 7-5 with a ERA of 3.24. The Phillies have had success from every person they have started. The Mets will need to be aggressive tonight if they want to snap this losing streak.
This Mets team is overmatched at this point in the season. My concern is that this team has gone as far as it could go this season. These young players excluding Lucas Duda are not contributing to the success of the team. The Mets were doing better than anyone expected, but now it seems like they are falling back to Earth. The Mets need a win tonight to take momentum into their next series against the Braves on Friday.
