Mets lose fifth straight; Fall to D-Backs 5-3

The New York Mets took on the Arizona Diamondbacks in the final game of a three game series. The Mets were looking to get their first win in this series and snap a four game losing streak. They have been struggling with their pitching over the past four games. They had to bring their best game tonight if they wanted to win.

The Mets were able to jump out early on a Lucas Duda solo homerun in the fourth inning. This was his fourth homerun of the season and he continues to help this team. Then after the Mets fell behind 2-1 they were able to come right back and tie the game on a Justin Turner RBI double. Shortly after that Lucas Duda singled up the middle to plate Justin Turner. The Mets took the lead yet again as they led 3-2. But the D-Backs wouldn’t back off as they tied the game on a Justin Upton solo homerun. The D-Backs would take the lead on a Henry Blanco RBI double bringing their lead to 4-3.

Chris Capuano pitched for the Mets trying to give the Mets a nice start. Capuano struggled countless times to keep the Mets in the lead. He gave up the lead twice tonight and really struggled to keep them off the board. Capuano went six innings allowing four runs on nine hits. He did keep the Mets in position to make a comeback, but the Mets were unable to make a run.

Jason Marquis started for the Diamondbacks looking to get his first win as a D-Back. He would have a short start as he left with a broken right fibula. He suffered the injury on come backer from Angel Pagan. Marquis lasted 3.1 innings allowing one run on three hits. He really was pitching well before his injury and the only run he gave up came on a Lucas Duda solo homerun. The D-Backs have lost someone, who was supposed to of been a key addition to their rotation. They now have a huge hole in their rotation that they will have to fix heading into September.

Ryota Igarashi struggled tonight as he couldn’t make it through an inning giving up a run, a hit, and two walks. He really lacked any command and let the D-Backs extend their lead to 5-3. This game marked the fifth straight lost by the Mets. Also the Mets were swept and fell four games under .500.

Game Notes:

  • Angel Pagan went 3 for 5 with a double and a run scored. He really hit the ball well tonight from both sides of the plate.
  • Justin Turner went 1 for 4 with a RBI double and a walk.
  • Lucas Duda went 2 for 3 with a homerun and a RBI single. He also walked two times as he continues to play well.
