The New York Mets played the Atlanta Braves tonight at Citi Field. This was the second game of a three game series. The Mets lost last night and were looking to get a win tonight to snap a five game losing streak. The Mets have struggled during that stretch offensively. They were looking to get back on track with a win against their division rival.
The Mets would break out of their offensive funk and scored with the long ball. The Mets started the scoring as Justin Turner hit his third homerun of the season to put the Mets up by one. Then David Wright plated a run with his RBI double. This was the first time the Mets seemed to want to score some runs over their last five games. Then after falling behind 5-2 the Mets climbed a little closer when Jason Bay hit a two-run homerun. Then in the fourth inning Josh Thole hit a solo homerun and Justin Turner followed him later in the inning as he hit a two-run homerun. They would go ahead 7-5 after trailing by three runs. The Mets offense finally broke out with some runs tonight and gave the home crowd something to cheer about. They have to continue scoring if they want to win. They would add three runs on three hits in the seventh inning bringing their lead to 10-6. Then in the eighth inning the Mets plated another run on a Jason Bay RBI single. The Mets would win the 11-7 as they snapped a five game losing streak.
Jon Niese started for the Mets trying to keep his team in the game. Niese struggled through his five innings. He allowed five runs on ten hits with six strikeouts. He struggled, but his team was there for him when he needed them most. Niese wasn’t sharp, but he was able to get out of multiple jams. Overall he was very lucky that the Mets were able to score him some runs tonight. He has to be better in the future unless he will get the lost.
Tommy Hanson pitched for the Braves and he really struggled. He only went 3.1 innings allowing seven runs on eight hits. This was the worst start by Hanson all season and he really struggled to get outs. He was not sharp and struggled for the Braves tonight. The Braves were trying hard to get Hanson the win, but he struggled to hold off the Met hitters.
