The Mets offense was held in check for the entire game and they were shutout. The Phillies pitching proved why they are one of the best staffs in the league with their excellent pitching. If the Mets continue to struggle at the plate the Mets will possibly fall further down the standings.
Dillon Gee started for the Mets looking to continue his success from his last start. Gee would go 3.2 innings allowing eight runs on seven hits with six walks. This was possibly the worst start that Gee has had in his career. He was all out of sorts for his entire outing. He was awful tonight as he threw 97 pitches in a short outing. The Mets had no chance tonight because of Gee’s lack of command.
Cliff Lee was handed the lead and never relinquished it. Lee now has 14 wins for the season and is proving his worth to the Phillies organization. Lee went seven innings allowing no runs on three hits. He also struck out seven batters and walked three. He really dominated the Mets tonight and never allowed them to mount any runs off of him. Lee now is 2-0 in three career starts against the Mets.
The Mets bullpen continue to give up runs as Ryota Igarashi gave up two runs. This bullpen is possibly the worst bullpen in the last ten years for the Mets. They struggle every game and can not be counted on. The Phillies showed offensively that they can score runs and can do it easily.
