Phillies continue to beat Mets; Win 9-4

The New York Mets were looking to snap a four game losing streak as they faced the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets were shutdown against the Phillies as Cliff Lee and the Phillies bullpen shut them down. The Mets have been overmatched on both sides of the field. They are struggling to score runs and pitching the ball. They have to get back to winning to just take some success out of the season. The Mets now have no chance at making a run at the playoffs and are in danger of falling into last place in the next week.

Tonight the Mets sent Jon Niese to the mound. Niese really struggled tonight and after a nice first inning Niese would go downhill from their. Niese would only last four innings allowing eight runs on ten hits. He wasn’t sharp tonight and he allowed the Phillies to just get hit after hit against him. He allowed two homeruns that resulted in four runs. He has to put this terrible lost behind him and move on. He allowed himself to get upset and took himself out of the game mentally.

Vance Worley started for the Phillies looking to get his ninth win of the season. He really locked the Mets down tonight as he went seven innings allowing one run on five hits. He fell into trouble in the first two innings against the Mets and after getting through that Worley was able to dominate them. Worley showed tonight why the Phillies need to keep him in their rotation. He is now 9-1 on the season and is getting more dominant each time he pitches.

The Mets did get a homerun off the bat of Lucas Duda, a two-run homer that cut the Phillies lead to 9-3. The Mets have a whole lot of upside heading into next season with Duda and Ike Davis. When healthy this could possibly be one of the best 1-2 combo in the National League.

The Mets used a total of five pitchers to get through the game tonight. The bullpen went four innings allowing one run on three hits. This was the best the bullpen looked in a while. But, the Mets would still go on to lose the game 9-4 in another lost to the Phillies.
