Pre-Game: Marlins vs. Mets 7:10 PM

The New York Mets return home tonight to take on the Florida Marlins in a three game series. The Mets are coming off a series lost to the Washington Nationals in which they were supposed to win. Series in which the Mets lose to a weaker team really pushes them further back in the standings and doesn’t help their playoff chances. Tonight the Mets have to come out and score runs and pitch great if they want to win this game.

Mike Pelfrey will try to continue his success from his last start in which he threw a complete game. This is the second complete game from Pelfrey this season. He has really been inconsistent this season and has pitched more bad games then good. He needs to give the Mets a similar performance tonight in order to get a win. The Mets need to get a win tonight and win this series in order to keep hope alive for a playoff run. Pelfrey can dominate this Marlin team, but he needs to believe that if he’s going to win.

Javier Vazquez has been up and down this season and his ERA is the reason for that. Vazquez comes into the night with a ERA of 5.10 and has really struggled with runners in scoring position. He has an ERA of 15.65 with 51 earned runs and .291 combined batting average. His struggles really affect him at home as he has a record of 3-6 and an ERA of 6.14. But on the road he is 4-3 with an ERA of 4.46 in 12 starts. The Mets need to come out and hit him hard and give Pelfrey a huge lead.

The Mets offense has struggled over the last two games as they have been held to two runs over that span. It is time for the Mets to have an offensive explosion and give their home team something to smile about. If the Mets can win this series they will be alive in the race and have momentum going into their series against the Braves.
