Pre-Game: Marlins vs. Mets 7:10 PM

The New York Mets will play the Florida Marlins tonight at Citi Field. This will be the second game of a three game series. The Mets lost last night 7-3 in extra innings. The Mets lost the game on a grand slam by Mike Stanton. Before Jason Isringhausen gave up the homerun Daniel Murphy made a key mistake as he wasn’t able to tag the runner out who over ran the base. That mistake cost the Mets the game because Mike Stanton hit the grand slam right after that blunder.

Tonight the Mets will send Chris Capuano to the mound hoping that he can end their tough stretch. He has struggled over his last three starts as he has given up 14 combined runs over those starts. The Mets need him to give them a great start. The Mets need to start winning again otherwise they will fall to far to get back in the race. Capuano has pitched up and down this season, but he hasn’t done well against the Marlins this season. His last two starts against them he has lost and has given up four runs in each of the starts. He needs to pitch very good today if the Mets are going to win.

Brad Hand will start for the Marlins looking to get his second win of the season. Hand is 1-3 in six starts this season with an ERA of 2.73. He has been the Marlins fill in player since they have had many injuries to their starting pitchers. He has filled in nicely and the most runs he has given up this season is three runs. The Mets have to be patient and feel this guy out in their first at-bat after that they can swing at any pitch they want as they get more comfortable with him.

The Mets offense needs to come out and score some runs if they are going to win this game. They are in need of an offensive explosion and tonight is the night. They have to come out wanting to win and not allowing a terrible team to come in and beat them on consecutive nights. They have to win tonight and prove to everyone that they can compete at a high level.
