The New York Mets will close out their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks today at Chase Field. The Mets are looking to avoid a sweep with a lost today and avoid falling four games under .500. The Mets need a win tonight to take something out of this series. The chances of the Mets making the playoffs are slimmer now that they are losing more and more. In order for them to get even recognition in the playoff race, they will need to go on a crazy winning streak and sweep their division opponents. But today they need to stop this four game losing streak and win this game today.
Chris Capuano will start for the Mets trying to give this team a nice effort. Capuano went six innings allowing four runs on nine hits. He was given a no decision as the Mets were able to comeback and beat the Padres. The Mets need something great out of Capuano tonight as they hope to snap this losing streak. He needs to give this team a great start and pick up his 10th win of the season.
Jason Marquis will start for the Diamondbacks looking to get back on track. He is facing the Mets for the first time since he was traded at the deadline. Marquis is looking for his first win as a D-Back and give his team all of his effort. Marquis has gone only four innings in both of his starts as a D-Back. He has also given up eleven runs in those two starts. The Mets may be catching him at the right time and need to hit him hard today. He faced the Mets earlier this season and gave up three runs over six innings. Marquis is looking to get his ninth win of the season.
Before the game Andy Martino published a report that stated that Jason Marquis would be interested in joining the Mets next season.
Marquis stated:
“I try not to extend my focus past (this year), but obviously I have always had a desire to pitch at home,” said the Brooklyn-born Marquis, who still lives in Staten Island, and who faces the Mets Sunday. “I’m a New York guy, and I have always dreamed of playing for the Yankees or Mets, representing my hometown.”
The Mets need a spark because this team is just dragging on. They need someone to step up and save their season. A perfect candidate could be Jason Bay who needs to have a outstanding final months for the Mets. If he could do that he can possibly give this team more hope for next season.
