The New York Mets will continue their series against their division rival tonight at Citizens Bank Park. The Mets are currently on a four game losing streak after their shutout lost to the Phillies last night. The Mets are just struggling in all areas of their game. Cliff Lee shut the Mets down with his excellent pitching. The Mets will have another tough task tonight as they go up against more of the Phillies great pitching.
Jon Niese will pitch for the Mets looking to snap this losing streak. Niese is coming off a lost in which he went six innings allowing three runs on ten hits. He isn’t pitching at his best, but he is keeping the Mets in the game. Niese has the ability to strikeout more batters then he does. If Niese can start throwing the curveball more, he will easily strikeout at least nine batters a game. The Mets need Niese to give them a great start tonight if they want to win.
Vance Worley will start for the Phillies looking to get his ninth win of the season. Worley has been a godsend for the Phillies franchise after the injury to Joe Blanton. Worley is coming off a no decision in which he went three innings and allowed one hit. Worley left the game due to a rain delay that lasted over a hour. The Phillies have to be excited about this kid because he is pitching really well. The true test for him will come in the playoffs when the pressure will be at its fullest.
The Mets need to get a win tonight just to take something from this series against the Phillies. If the Mets continue to lose they will end up in last place in the division and take nothing from this season.
