Blame Collins for last night’s lost

Anyone who watched last night’s Met game saw countless opportunities to win the game. Yeah you can blame Reyes for not scoring another run when he over ran the base and got caught trying to get back. Yeah you can blame Ruben Tejada for getting caught stealing second base. But one thing remains, Terry Collins is to blame for the lost last night.

In the ninth inning the Mets were able to get the first two batters on base. Nick Evans came up to hit, but instead of swinging the bat Evans opts to bunt which he was instructed to do. Mind you Evans was 2 for 4 at that point. Evans gave the Mets the first lead of the game when he doubled home two runs in the third inning. So for him to bunt was a surprise to everyone especially since the Mets have struggled to get bunts down. Evans bunted the ball back to the pitcher and the Reds were able to get a force out at third base.

The Mets would get Josh Thole to the plate and he would ground into a double play to end the game. This was a horrific lost by the Mets and the blame should be on Collins. It seems as if Collins is becoming bunt happy and is taking runs away for this team. Outs are what wins games and Collins gave the Reds the outs to win the game.

I will say this that Terry Collins has the players playing the way he wants them. He has done a great job this season managing this team. At times Collins has over managed and made the game harder then it needs to be. I still think that Collins was the right choice for this team, but sometimes like most managers make that wrong choice that cost them the game. The Mets still have to be happy with Collins this season and hopefully he can get this team going in the right direction next season.
