Cubs beat Mets 10-6

USA

The New York Mets played the Chicago Cubs tonight at Citi Field. Before the game the Mets honor the lives of those affected by the September 11 attacks. The Mets were trying to give the home crowd some great times tonight and get them a win. A win tonight would give the Mets a series win against the Cubs.

Miguel Batista started for the Mets and he struggled to keep the Mets with in a reachable margin. Batista went five innings allowing four runs on five hits. He struggled with his command as he walked three batters. Through those five innings Batista threw 93 pitches in his short outing. He struggled tonight and didn’t get any run support. He left in a 4-1 Cubs lead and he would be in line for his first lost as a Met.

Matt Garza started for the Cubs looking to get his ninth win of his season. Garza pitched very well through the early innings, but would give the Mets some hope later in his outing. Garza went seven innings allowing three runs on seven hits. Overall Garza pitched well despite allowing the Mets to score two runs in the sixth inning. The Cubs wouldn’t be able to hold on to the lead and Garza was given the no decision.

The Mets were able to tie the game at one with a RBI double from Angel Pagan. The Mets wouldn’t score again until the sixth inning when Nick Evans doubled to score Jose Reyes. The Mets would later get a RBI single from Ronny Paulino that scored Nick Evans. The Mets would have a one-run deficit to try to overtake in order to win tonight’s game. In the eighth inning the Mets would tie the game on infield single by Justin Turner. The Mets for the third game in a row battled back from a three run deficit.

In the ninth inning the Mets would get the first two batters on second and first base with David Wright coming to the plate. Wright would ground into a fielders choice leaving him on first with Lucas Duda on second. Angel Pagan would come to the plate with one out and two men on. He would walk after a wild pitch from the Cubs reliever. Jason Bay would come to the plate, but would hit into a fielders choice that would leave the bases loaded with two outs. Jason Pridie would strikeout to end the inning to send the Mets into extra innings.

Josh Thole led the 10th inning off with a single to start the Mets inning off right. Mike Nickeas delivered a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to second with one out. The Cubs would intentionally walk Jose Reyes to get to Ruben Tejada. Tejada would groundout and moved both runners up a base. The Cubs intentionally walked Lucas Duda to fill the bases with two outs to bring up David Wright. Wright would fly out to the left fielder to end the inning.

Josh Stinson would give up a run for the first time in his Major League career. Stinson would fill the bases and would leave without recording an out. Ryota Igarashi came in to pitch and would serve up a two run double to Alfonso Soriano. The Cubs would take a 7-4 lead after Soriano’s double. Darwin Barney would hit a two-run double to extend the Cubs lead to five runs. The Cubs would finish a six run 11th inning.

Jason Pridie did hit a two-run homerun to bring the Mets within four runs. But the Mets would still go on to lose the game 10-6.
