The New York Mets played the Marlins tonight in their final series at Sun Life Stadium. The Mets were coming off a series win against the Washington Nationals. They were looking to start this series off with a win.
Tonight the Mets offense was shut down the entire game and they were only able to get across one run through the first eight innings. The one run came on a groundout by Angel Pagan in the 4th inning to bring home David Wright. The Mets offense couldn’t get any clutch hits or any homeruns tonight. They lost the game because of the pitching and that is what took them out of this game. The Mets did get a two-run homerun in the 9th inning to bring the Mets within six runs.
Chris Capuano started for the Mets looking to get a win for his team. Capuano would have another terrible start as he went four innings allowing six runs on eight hits. He really struggled tonight and couldn’t get batters out. He also failed to limit the runs that the Marlins scored. He left with the Mets trailing by five. This is not the way the Mets wanted Capuano to close out his season. He has to pitch better in his last starts of the season if he wants to be part of the rotation for next season.
Javier Vazquez owned the Mets again tonight in his 29th start. Vazquez went seven innings allowing one run on six hits. He really did a nice job in limiting the Mets from getting hit after hit. He has pitched two straight games against the Mets and has beaten them in both. His pitches worked very well off each other and he dominated the Mets. Vazquez is now 9-11 on the season and is proving that he can still pitch at a high level.
The Mets would lose tonight in a game where they trailed the entire night. The final score was 9-3 in favor of the Marlins.
