The New York Mets took on the Florida Marlins in their final series at Sun Life Stadium. The Mets were looking for a series win with a win today. They were coming off a 12 inning win in which Nick Evans had three go ahead RBI singles. The Mets fought hard to get that win last night and were trying to make it two nights in a row with a win tonight.
The Mets would jump out to a early 1-0 lead on a Lucas Duda RBI double in the first inning. The Mets were on their way as their lead would last the entire game.
The Mets sent R.A. Dickey to the mound to try to get the team another win. Dickey would go seven strong innings allowing four hits on zero runs. He really pitched well tonight and put the Mets in position to get the win. His knuckleball had better movement tonight and it resulted in three strikeouts. Dickey wasn’t perfect. but he was able to get out of jams when necessary. The Mets have to be happy with Dickey this season because he never quitted even when he couldn’t win. Brad Hand started for the Marlins looking to get his second win of his career. He would last six innings allowing one run on three hits. He struggled with his command as he walked four batters. He left the game down by a run and would be in position to pick up his sixth lost of the season. He pitched well, but his offense was unable to provide the necessary run support.
The Mets would give the save opportunity to Manny Acosta who would convert his opportunity with two strikeouts in the inning, The Mets would win with the final score being 1-0.
