The New York Mets faced the Florida Marlins tonight at Sun Life stadium. After a hour and fifteen rain delay the Mets were under way against the Marlins. The Mets offense was able to get a run to take a lead on a Justin Turner RBI single. The Mets would then break a 1-1 tie in the 6th inning on a Nick Evans RBI single.
Miguel Batista started for the Mets looking to earn his second consecutive win since the Mets called him up last week. Batista pitched well enough to leave with the lead. Batista went six innings allowing one run on five hits. He did walk four batters, but was able to get through his jams. He has pitched very well for the Mets and is looking like a great addition to the team. The Mets were unable to hold the lead for him and he was given a no decision.
Chris Volstad started for the Marlins looking to earn a win. Volstad went six innings allowing two runs on six hits. He really pitched well, but was unable to get run support to earn a win. He threw just 86 pitches, but was unable to go further in the game. He did his best to keep the Marlins in the game, but he struggled in key moments in the game. The Marlins have to be happy with the effort he gave tonight even though he couldn’t get the win.
The Mets would get another RBI single from Nick Evans in the 8th inning to give them a 3-2 lead. The Mets for the third time in the game took the lead for the third time in the game.
Jason Isringhausen worked the 8th inning and would pitch into and out of a jam. He struggled as he walked three batters, but was able to get two strikeouts in a row to end the bases loaded threat. He has had games where his control is just awful, but tonight he was able to get through the inning.
The Mets would tact on another run in the 9th inning on a Angel Pagan RBI double the Mets would take a 4-2 lead. Bobby Parnell would be given the save opportunity and he would blow another save. He had two outs, but could not close the door. He pitched well, but his pitches found the wrong parts of the bat and the game was tied on a Mike Cameron two-run double.
The Mets would have a clean tenth inning from Pedro Beato and Tim Byrdak. The Marlins were able to get the go ahead runner on base, but the Marlins were unable to get him home.
But in the eleventh inning David Wright dropped a pop up which would take Tim Byrdak out of the game and continued the inning. Ryota Igarashi would come in to pitch and would strike out the only batter he had to face.
In the 12th inning the Mets were able to get the first two men on base. They would take the lead on a Nick Evans RBI single his third go ahead RBI of the night. Later in the inning Jose Reyes would collect his third hit of the night that also bought in a run. The Mets would tact on another run as they went up 7-4.
In the bottom of the 12th inning Josh Stinson would try to earn his first Major League save. He would earn the save as he threw a 1-2-3 inning. He would give the Mets the 7-4 win with his nice inning of work.
