Mets fall to the Nationals 3-2

The New York Mets faced the Washington Nationals tonight at Citi Field. The Mets lost game one of the series and were looking to get a win tonight. The Mets didn’t start Jason Bay tonight due to a sore shoulder. So the Mets started Willie Harris in left field to fill Bay’s void. They had to figure out a way to win without Bay who has been a vital piece to their positive September.

The Mets started Dillon Gee tonight hoping that he could get them a win. Gee went 5.2 innings allowing two runs on six hits. He really had to pitch hard in order to get through his start tonight. He did have five strikeouts, but he failed to keep the Nationals down after he was given a two run lead. Gee would be given a no decision as he record remained as 12-6. The Mets need some consistency from Gee and once they get that from him, he will be a great pitcher in this league.

The Nationals Chien-Ming Wang started for them tonight looking to get a win. He would last just five innings allowing two runs on nine hits. He struggled tonight for the Nationals and struggled to get outs. He only threw 72 pitches tonight, but wasn’t effective. He was also given a no decision and his record remained the same.

The Mets started the scoring tonight as they were able to get two runs in the fifth inning as Lucas Duda drove in a run with a single. The Mets would also bring in another run on Duda’s RBI single as Jayson Werth bobbled the ball and forced in another run. The Mets would jump out to a two run lead. But Dillon Gee and the bullpen would allow the Nationals to take a one run lead. The Mets were unable to comeback and get the win tonight. They would lose 3-2 and are now hoping to win the next two games against the Nationals.
