The Mets played the Marlins to close out a five game series. The Mets have won three out of four to start the series and were looking to get the fourth win tonight. Tonight the Mets would lose Josh Thole in the second inning after he was hit on the wrist by a Miguel Batista pitch trying to catch the ball. The original post can be located here.
Tonight the Mets were given the opportunity to win this game and they took advantage. The Mets were able to score four runs off the Marlins thanks to their blunders. The first run came on a bases loaded walk to Lucas Duda in the third inning that scored Miguel Batista. The Mets were able to cut the Marlin lead to 2-1 at this point. The next batter was David Wright who was able to single in two runs which gave the Mets a 3-2 lead. Then the Mets would scratch across another run on a Brett Hayes pass ball. The Mets would have a 4-2 lead and were in control from there. The Mets would add another run in the 8th inning on a Lucas Duda RBI double bringing the Met lead to 5-2. Later in the inning the Mets would bring in a run on a error by the Marlin pitcher Steve Cishek. The Mets would continue their inning of runs as Mike Nickeas drove home a run with the bases loaded giving them a 7-2 lead. The offense capitalized on every opportunity given to them tonight and won the game because of it.
Miguel Batista started for the Mets tonight looking to pick up career win number 100 at age 40. Batista struggled early as he gave up a run in the first two innings. After his early struggles Batista was able to settle in. He would go six innings allowing two runs on six hits. He had a very great start tonight as he was able to keep the Mets in position to get a win. He left the game with a 4-2 lead and was in position to get his 100th win.
Clay Hensley started for the Marlins looking to give his team a nice start. Hensley would start great, but in the third inning he would struggle. He would wind up going two innings and was taken out in the middle of pitching to a batter. He gave up four runs (three earned) on two hits and two walks. He really didn’t put the Marlins in position to get the win.
Breaking News: Ruben Tejada would leave tonight’s game after he was struck on the hand by a pitch. He would leave the game for X-rays.
D.J. Carrasco came in for the ninth inning and really struggled to get a out. He would last 0.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits. Even with Carrasco’s under achieving performance the Mets went on to win the game 7-5. Bobby Parnell would pick up his fourth save of the season after he came in for Carrasco. The Mets now have six wins in the last seven games and are now three games under .500. Lastly tonight’s win gives the Mets 30 wins at home this season.
