Nationals beat the Mets 10-1

The Mets faced the Nationals at Citi Field tonight. The Mets were trying to avoid a series sweep and fall to fourth place in their division. This was the fourth game of a four game series and the Mets have struggled the entire series.

Chris Schwinden pitched today for the Mets looking to earn his first Major League win. Schwinden went five innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. Schwinden pitched better in this start then in his last start. His pitching looked great tonight and he was able to get ahead of the hitters, but fell into some trouble in the fifth inning that put him in a bind to go further in the game. Schwinden left the game down by two runs.

Tom Milone pitched for the Nationals looking to collect his first Major League win. Milone pitched very well today and was able to walk away with the lead. Milone went 5.2 innings allowing a run on three hits. He really dominated the Mets in this game and limited them to only one run. He left the game with the lead and was in line for his first win.

The Mets offense was able to get a run in the sixth inning on a Jason Bay RBI double. The Mets at this point were able to cut the Nationals lead to one run. The Mets bullpen struggled as they allowed eight runs. The Mets were unable to come back in the game and they lost 10-1.
