Nationals beat Mets 2-0

The New York Mets face the Washington Nationals tonight at Citi Field. The Mets were trying to stop a four game losing streak. The Mets were coming off a lost to the Nationals in which they led by two runs and lost by a run. Their pitching has struggled and that has hampered any progress that they had this month.

Mike Pelfrey started for the Mets looking to get a win for his team. Pelfrey pitched very well, but a error by David Wright caused two runs to score. Pelfrey went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits. He also tied a season high six strikeouts. He pitched very well tonight, but was unable to walk away with a victory. The Mets have to be happy with the effort from Pelfrey tonight as he tried his best to get his team a win.

Brad Peacock started for the Nationals looking to get his first Major League win in his first start. He really dominated the Mets and only allowed two hits. He did walk three batters, which hampered any chance of him going further in the game. His pitches worked very well off each other and he proved that he is a top young pitching prospect in this league. He did qualify for the win as he went five innings allowing just two hits. The Nationals have to be excited for this kid’s future and their rotation of the future.

The Mets offense was held down tonight. They had plenty of opportunities to take the lead, but they couldn’t get the big hit. The Mets did have life in the ninth inning as Jason Bay drew a lead-off walk and was moved to second when Willie Harris drew a walk. The Mets had two men on with no outs. The Mets would bring up Justin Turner to bunt and he would pop up the bunt and the runners had to hold. Jason Pridie was the next batter and he would ground the ball back to the pitcher and they would get one out at second. Jose Reyes was the last hope for the Mets as he came up with runners on third and first. Reyes would fly-out to end the game. The Mets would lose 2-0.
