The New York Mets continued their three game series tonight against the Nationals. The Mets were trying to make it three wins in a row with a win tonight. They welcomed back Ronny Paulino to the lineup after he missed many games with a broken toe. He made three pinch hit appearances, but never played catcher since August 22nd. The Mets were looking to get another win and improve their record to 68-69.
The offense would start a comeback after they fell behind by five runs. Angel Pagan would start the comeback with his two run single. Later in the inning Nick Evans would club his 4th homerun of the season, a two-run homer to bring the Mets within a run. Then in the sixth inning with the score at 6-4 Jason Bay hit a homerun to center field to bring home two. The Mets now tied the game at six and the Mets were able to get back into the game. The Mets would take a lead on a Lucas Duda sacrifice-fly that scored Willie Harris. The Mets finally had the lead after fighting back all night.
Dillon Gee started for the Mets looking to collect his 13th win of the season. Gee would struggle to start his day as he allowed five runs through the first two innings. He would go five innings allowing six runs on eight hits. He wasn’t sharp to start and was very lucky that the Mets were able to score some runs for him. Gee gave up three homeruns tonight and really struggled to keep the ball out of the middle of the plate. Gee did strike out six batters and walked one batter.
Tom Milone made his Major League debut for the Nationals looking to earn his first win. Milone would have a night to remember as he clubbed a three-run homerun off Dillon Gee on the first pitch he saw. He would give the Nationals a five run lead with the score being 5-0. Milone would go just 4.1 innings and would fall short of qualifying for a win. He would give up four runs on six hits over 4.1 innings. He really started the game well, but struggled the second time around on the Mets. He threw just 74 pitches and the Nationals bought in Tom Gorzelanny to replace him.
Manny Acosta pitched very well in his two innings of work he struck out five batters over those innings. He really dominated the Nationals hitters and threw the ball really hard. He is defiantly solidifying his spot in the Mets bullpen for next season. He is pitching great in close games and is giving the Mets great pitching.
Bobby Parnell would pitch the ninth inning biding for his fifth save of the season. Parnell struggled in his inning of work and blew his save opportunity. He really took the Mets out of the game and thus allowed the Nationals to win the game.
