Phillies snap eight game losing streak; Beat the Mets 9-4

The New York Mets played the Philadelphia Phillies in their final game of the season. The Mets were looking to sweep the series against their division rival. The Mets were coming off a day of wins as they swept the two games against the Phillies. Today the Mets were trying to get another win and finish out with a win against their division foe.

Roy Halladay started for the Phillies looking to get his 19th win of the season. Halladay would have a nice pitching performance as he went seven innings allowing just four hits on no runs. He was able to just pitch the way he wanted to and fared well against a Met lineup that has been depleted by injuries. The Phillies could of let Halladay go the distance, but they need him for the postseason. He would get his 19th win and continue to be a favorite for the NL Cy Young.

The Mets sent Mike Pelfrey to the mound hoping that he could hold the Phillies down. Pelfrey struggled from the first pitch to his last pitch. Pelfrey lasted just three innings allowing five runs on nine hits. He didn’t have any of his pitches working this afternoon. His lack of production for this team has really hurt the Mets ability to have a nice season. Pelfrey has to pitch better next season otherwise he could find himself off the team.

The Mets offense was anemic tonight and Roy Halladay was a huge part in that. The Mets would eventually get some runs on a Ronny Paulino two run homerun in the seventh inning. This was just the second homerun for Paulino this season. The Mets would get another run on a Valentino Pascucci RBI single. The Mets would creep closer as the score now read 9-3. The Mets would later get another run on a Justin Turner RBI double in the eighth inning. That would be the final run the Mets would score in this game as they went on to lose 9-4.
