The New York Mets will play the second game of a three game series today against the Chicago Cubs. The Mets are coming off a walk-off win in which Justin Turner delivered a RBI single to win the game. The Mets won after Manny Acosta blew his first save of the season. The Mets won because they wanted to win the game and made ever possible effort to achieve that.
Today Chris Capuano starts for the Mets looking to get his 11th win of the season. Capuano is coming off possibly his worst start of the season. A four inning performance marked his shortest outing of the season. He allowed six runs to score in the losing effort. The Mets definitely need a great start from him today in order to beat the Cubs. This Mets team has thrived off the success of its’ starting pitchers. So Capuano has to come out and give the Mets at least six or seven innings of well pitched baseball.
The Cubs will send Randy Wells to the mound vying for his eighth win of the season. Wells is pitching very well over his last three starts in which he has a 3-0 record and has allowed just two runs to score over that stretch. He has really had a surge of great pitching, but Wells has a problem of inconsistency and that has led to many problems over the years. The Mets have to find a way to beat Wells and get another win.
The Mets have had great success over the last week or so. Jason Bay has been front and center and yesterday was no surprise as Bay had two doubles. He is hitting the ball really well and is starting to find his swing. He has to just close out the season hitting the ball and next season will just be that much easier for him.
