Pre-Game: Cubs vs. Mets 7:10 p.m.

The Mets will start a three game series against the Cubs tonight at Citi Field. The Mets are coming off a two game sweep by the hands of the Atlanta Braves. The Mets looked terrible on the defensive side of the ball and that’s what took them out of each game. The Mets have to play better defensively in order to win some more games this season. They also have to convert on all of their opportunities given to them. Tonight they have the potential of beating a team they are supposed to beat.

Mike Pelfrey will get the start for the Mets looking to get a win. Pelfrey is coming off a no decision in which he allowed three runs over 4.2 innings. Pelfrey struggled from the opening pitch in his last start and struggled to record outs. The Mets need Pelfrey to start great tonight and pound the strike zone. One thing that I have noticed, Pelfrey struggles with big innings. Once a batter gets an extra base hit off him he is rattled and can not get outs. Pelfrey has to prove that he can get out of jams and get outs.

Casey Coleman will get the start for the Cubs tonight  looking to pick up his third win of the season. Coleman has struggled this season and is looking bad in most of his starts. He has allowed 30 earned runs over his last ten games and has 47 earned runs for the season. The Cubs have lost most of his starts and Coleman hasn’t beat the Mets this season. Coleman faced the Mets on May 25th this season and gave up six runs over 1.1 innings. He really struggled in that game and the Mets were able to just able to score off him. If the Mets bring that same effort tonight they will easily beat the Cubs.

Before today’s game the Mets recalled RHP Dale Thayer from the minors as part of their September call-up.
