Pre-Game: Marlins vs. Mets 7:10 pm

The New York Mets will close out their series against the Marlins tonight at Citi Field. The Mets have won three out of four in this series and are looking to get their fourth win. This team has played much better and the defense has played a major role in their success. Last night was a prime example when David Wright made a diving stop to get the second out. Which was followed by Ruben Tejada’s running throw to end the game. The defense has to stay strong tonight as the Mets look to get another win.

Shortly after last night’s game the Mets recalled RHP Josh Stinson from Binghamton (AA) and purchased the contract of infielder Josh Satin from Buffalo (AAA). Both players are among many expected to get to the majors this month as rosters expand.

Tonight the Mets will send 40 year old Miguel Batista to the mound. Batista was released by the St. Louis Cardinals on June 22nd and was signed by the Mets on July 4th. He was sent to Triple-A Buffalo and was recalled earlier this week. The Mets hope to get a great effort out of Batista tonight. Batista was 3-2 with a 4.60 ERA with the Cardinals earlier this season.

Clay Hensley will oppose Batista looking to earn his third win of the season. Hensley is coming off a win against the Phillies where he went 5.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits. He has pitched very well since he has come out of the bullpen, but his team has struggled to get runs for him which explains his record. The Mets were able to get two runs off him on July 18th. Hensley would go on to get a no decision in that contest.

The Mets will need to play hard tonight and finish out this series out on a positive note.
