The New York Mets will continue their three game series tonight against the Cardinals. The Mets lost the first game of the series last night after having a four run lead. The Mets bullpen gave up six runs in the seventh inning to let the Cardinals blow the game open. The Mets started Mike Pelfrey in that game and he let the Cardinals back in the game as he gave up five runs. The Mets have to close out this season wanting to win games and get the best record as possible.
Tonight the Mets will start Chris Schwinden as he looks to get his first Major League win. Schwinden had his best start of his career in his last start. Schwinden went five innings allowing just one run in a lost to the Washington Nationals. The Mets have to be happy with his last effort and hope that he can give them a even better start tonight against a tough team. Schwinden has to pitch very well tonight in order to get a win. His pitching looked much better in his last start and at times was unhittable. He has to command his pitches and must show the Mets that he can help them next season.
Jaime Garcia will start for the Cardinals looking to get 13th win of the season. Garcia is coming off a no decision against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cardinals have been the recipient of good pitching from Garcia as he continues to pitch well for them. The Cardinals want a nice effort from Garcia and need a start that can get them a win. The Wild Card race is heating up as the season winds down and the Cardinals are in need of wins to keep up with the Braves. If the Cardinals sweep the Mets, they will have the opportunity of overtaking the Braves in the race.
