Tonight the Mets will face the Marlins at Sun Life Stadium. The Mets lost the first game of the series last night. They didn’t receive a great performance out of Chris Capuano last night and he has struggled in his last two starts. The Mets didn’t start this series the way they wanted, but they do have the opportunity to beat the Marlins two time in a row. The Mets offense was also a problem as they were held to just three runs. Jason Bay did homer in the ninth inning to pull the Mets within six runs. This team needs Bay to get his hitting in order and become consistent again. Bay is struggling to see the ball, which is his major problem. He is up there guessing and is striking out on pitches off the plate. He has to get his bat going and close out this month hitting really well.
The Mets will start Miguel Batista tonight making just his second start of the season for the Mets. Batista is coming off win number 100 last week against the Marlins. He started slow, but was able to go six innings and give the Mets a win. He pitched very well once he got into the flow of the game. He may be someone the Mets could use next season as a starter or as a guy in their bullpen. The Mets are looking for the same type of start from Batista tonight in order to win.
Chris Volstad will go to the mound for the Marlins looking to get revenge against the Mets who beat him last week. Volstad gave up just two runs, but wasn’t given any run support. He has struggled all season long and is giving up an abundance of runs. The Marlins pitcher has a record of 5-12 with a ERA of 5.48. His struggles are an effect of giving up hits and walking batters. The Mets need to just get hits off him tonight and give him another lost.
