The New York Mets will play the Washington Nationals tonight at Citi Field. The Mets are coming off a series lost to the Chicago Cubs. They also lost last night on a very emotional day. Fans of the Mets are outraged over Major League Baseball’s ruling to not allow the Mets to wear hats that represented first responders. The Mets were respectful enough to comply with the MLB’s decision and went with what they were told.
Tonight the Mets will send R.A. Dickey to the mound as he looks to get his fourth consecutive win. Dickey is starting to get some run support and find his grip with the knuckleball. It is very important that Dickey closes his season out winning some games for this team. Dickey has had a very long season and is now trying to get his record to .500 before the season is out. His pitching has really gotten better as he has given up just three runs over his last three starts. And the three runs came in one game against the Nationals in which he still won. Dickey has converted nine quality starts in a row. A quality start is going at least six innings allowing three runs or less. The Mets have to score runs for Dickey tonight so that he can get another win.
Ross Detwiler will start for the Nationals trying to rebound from his last start. Detwiler went three innings allowing six runs on seven hits against the Mets last week. Detwiler struggles to limit the amount of hits off him. The Mets just need to do the same thing they did against him last week. Detwiler is having a time starting games as he is 1 for 5 as a starter for the Nationals this season. He has allowed at least one run in six of his starts this season. The Mets will have the ability to beat Detwiler again and give him his sixth lost as a starter.
