Pre-Game: Phillies vs. Mets 1:10 p.m.

The New York Mets will start their final home stand today against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets have just two series remaining with both the Phillies and the Reds coming to Citi Field to close out the season. The Mets need to have a great home stand and give the home crowd a season ending worth watching. The importance of winning each series will give the Mets a nice end, even though they were unable to reach the playoffs.

The Phillies will start Cole Hamels giving him his 31st start of the season. He has struggled over his last two starts and has allowed a combined eight runs in those starts. He is struggling heading into the final weeks of the regular season and he faces a team he has struggled to beat. In three starts this season against the Mets Hamels has a 1-2 record and an ERA of 9.64. He has allowed a total of 15 runs in the three games with just 14 innings pitched. He will try to limit the Mets in game one as he tries to get his 15th win of the season.

The Mets will send R.A. Dickey to the mound as he looks to collect his ninth win of the season. The Mets have been the beneficiary of great starting pitching from Dickey. He continues to give them quality starts and has a streak of eleven straight quality starts. The Mets have to give Dickey the credit that he deserves. He hasn’t had the record that he may have wanted, but Dickey still goes out and pitches the way the Mets want him to. He also is showing the Mets that he can be a key piece to their rotation next season. This start is a key one for Dickey because it will show the Mets what he can do against their division rival.

Angel Pagan is out of today’s lineup due to a headache and is replaced by Jason Pridie in center field. Pagan hit the back of his head swinging at the ball in Thursday night’s game. Also, Lucas Duda is having headaches after he ran into the right field wall in St. Louis. Willie Harris will continue to get the starts in the outfield.
