The New York Mets will play their final game of the season this afternoon against the Reds. The Mets have lost the first two games and have to win today otherwise they will finish the season being swept. The Mets received two homeruns last night from their All-Star shortstop in Jose Reyes. He now has a .336 average to lead the National League. Reyes needs another performance like last night to solidify his place in Mets history as the first Met to win the batting title. This afternoon the Mets need to send their fans home happy that their team won the final game of the season.
The Reds will pitch Edinson Volquez today as he looks for his sixth win to
bring his record to .500. He is coming off a no decision where he went five innings allowing three runs on six hits. This season hasn’t been kind to Volquez who has dealt with many things this season. He was sent to the minors earlier this season and has come back strong. The Mets have to get Volquez to elevate his pitches and get some homeruns off him. Volquez has given up 18 homeruns in 19 starts this season. This has been a major problem for him and the Mets have to take advantage tonight.
Miguel Batista will start for the Mets looking to get his fifth win of the
season. Batista has been coming out of the bullpen in his last five appearances. So far Batista has pitched well for the Mets and today he has to show that he can pitch for them next season. Batista has started games rough, but has been able to finish out his starts very well. The Mets have to get some runs for Batista to ensure that he can pitch the way he wants to.
This may be the final game as a Met for Jose Reyes and are support is with him where ever he may go. Let’s Go Mets!
