The New York Mets will start their final series tonight against the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field. The Mets are coming off a series win against their division rivals the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets had excellent starting pitching in the first two games from R.A. Dickey and Dillon Gee. They both were able to keep the Mets in the game and the Mets offense was able to comeback and get a win.
Tonight the Reds will start Homer Bailey who will try to get his 10th win
of the season. Bailey is coming off a win in which he went seven innings allowing two runs on six hits. He hasn’t had the best season, but he has been able to fight through everything this season. Bailey has a record of 9-7 and a ERA of 4.32. The Mets have to try to beat him by being patient and waiting for their pitch to hit. He does have the ability to strikeout batters so the Mets have to conscience of that.
The Mets will send Chris Schwinden to the mound as he looks to collect his first win in the Major Leagues. Schwinden is coming off a very well pitched
game in which he went six innings allowing three runs on six hits. He really looked confident in his pitches and really kept the Mets in the game. He would later get a no decision as the bullpen gave up the lead. But that meltdown by the bullpen didn’t have any effect on Schwinden’s performance. If Schwinden can be confident in his pitches tonight he will put the Mets in position again to win the game. The Mets just need their pitchers to close out this season well enough to keep some of them next season.
