The New England Patriots faced the New York Giants today at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots were looking to rebound from last weeks lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The first half was a struggle for both teams on the offensive end. Each team was held scoreless for the first half and both teams couldn’t get their offense going.
In the third quarter the Patriots had the ball first, but Tom Brady would throw his second interception of the day to give the ball to the Giants. The Giants would capitalize on their opportunity and were able to get a field goal to give them the lead. Later in the quarter Tom Brady would fumble and that turnover led to a Giants touchdown. The Giants were now up 10-0 against the Patriots and they looked in control.
The Patriots were able to get a field goal at the 5:29 mark in the third quarter from Stephen Gostkowski. This came after the Giants Aaron Ross fumbled a punt return and the Patriots were able to get the ball. This was a major turning point in the game for the Patriots as they were able to get the momentum necessary to get back into the game. But Julian Edelman fumbled on a punt return to give the ball right back. Then after the fumble Eli Manning threw an interception to give the ball right back.
In the fourth quarter the Patriots were able to tie the game on a Tom Brady to Aaron Hernandez. The Patriots had the momentum and were looking to stop the Giants on the defensive end. The Patriots would force the Giants to punt and were able to get the ball back with the ability to take the lead. The Patriots worked the ball down the field and were able to get a 44 yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski. The Patriots now had their first lead of the game with the score now at 13-10.
The Giants were able to get a touchdown and take a lead of four. The Patriots would get the ball back with Brady looking to get another game winning drive with just 3:03 left to play in the quarter. Brady would lead the Patriots down the field for another score this time it was to Rob Gronkowski to give the Patriots another lead. The Patriots now led 20-17 with 1:35 remaining in the game.
This game would come down to the Patriots defense needing a stop to give them a win. The Giants would get the ball down the field and were able to get a touchdown to win the game. This was the first lost for the Patriots in their last 20 games.
