The New England Patriots hosted the Kansas City Chiefs tonight at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots were looking to get their second win in a row despite having injuries to their defensive backs. Patrick Chung and Devin McCourty both were inactive along with Kevin Faulk and Jeff Tarpinian. The Patriots started Antwaun Molden, Kyle Arrington, James Ihedigbo, and Sterling Moore. The Chiefs would look to exploit the Patriots secondary.
The first quarter was owned by the Chiefs, but they were only able to get three points. They held the Patriots offense down and were able to control the momentum of the first quarter. The Patriots needed to score if they wanted to beat the Chiefs. at the 4:25 mark in the second quarter the Patriots Tom Brady found Rob Gronkowski wide open for a 52 yard touchdown pass. The Patriots took a 7-3 lead and took control of the game. In the final seconds of the second quarter Stephen Gostkowski nailed a 21 yard field goal to give the Patriots a 10-3 lead. The Patriots went into the half up by a touchdown and couldn’t be happy with their play.
The start of the second half saw Tom Brady find Rob Gronkowski for a 19 yard touchdown to extend the Patriots lead to 17-3. This was yet another Brady Gronkowski touchdown and the two are showing their great chemistry. During a punt Julian Edelman was able to return a punt for 72 yards for a score. The score was now 24-3 and the Patriots looked in control. The momentum really changed and the Chiefs were unable to match the Patriots intensity level.
The Chiefs Tyler Palko threw his second interception to Kyle Arrington to give the Patriots the ball back. That interception was the second of the game for Arrington his seventh of the season. The Patriots were able to get a field goal to close out the third quarter to bring their lead to 27-3. The Patriots defense proved that they could play despite all of the injuries. The secondary was able to get another interception from Tyler Palko this time Philip Adams was able to get his first interception of his career. This led to a punt by the Patriots.
The Patriots were able to get the ball after the Chiefs were unable to convert a fourth and long. The Patriots would run the clock down on a 14 play game that was capped off by a Shane Vereen 4 yard touchdown. The Patriots would go on to win 34-3.
