The New York Knicks played the Orlando Magic today at Madison Square Garden. This was the first afternoon game for the Knicks who were looking to snap a two game losing streak with a win. Carmelo Anthony returned to the Knicks lineup after missing one game with a right ankle sprain.
The Knicks came out with energy and looked as if they could sustain the lead and possibly win the game. But the Orlando Magic got hot from behind the arc and were able to put the Knicks away.
Ryan Anderson destroyed the Knicks from behind the arc as he hit 7 threes. Anderson scored 30 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. This season Anderson is proving that scoring that the Magic need. His ability to shoot the ball makes him very valuable to the Magic.
Carmelo Anthony had a great game as he scored 33 points. Anthony was able to score 20 points in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Magic. Anthony did reinjure is ankle in the fourth quarter, but remained in the game. The Knicks have to play a consistent game the entire game if they want to start winning these games. They played well the first three quarters, but the fourth quarter they struggled to get anything going. This team will need to regroup and figure out why things are not working out.
Amare Stoudemire had plenty of fouls today and was really a unproductive player. Stoudemire scored just 10 points in this game and he continues to struggle. He continues to pass up shots and force the issue. Sometimes forcing works, but not every time. He needs to go back to hitting the mid-range jumper to get the Knicks easy scores.
This game really hits the Knicks confidence simply because they led in this game almost the entire game. But a late Magic shooting rally knocked the Knicks out of this game. The Knicks will now have to prepare for the Phoenix Suns and try to beat them on Wednesday.
