Tonight the New York Knicks faced the Toronto Raptors at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks played their second game without all-star forward Amare Stoudemire. After their blow out win over the Kings, the Knicks were looking for their second straight win.
The first quarter saw the Knicks come out with energy, but they only led by one point after the first quarter. Carmelo Anthony started off really well in the opening quarter as he scored 13 points. He really came out wanting to get the Knicks the win. Sadly, in the second quarter the Knicks were unable to keep the lead and soon fell behind by 18 points. That second quarter the Knicks only scored 11 points and they really struggled to make shots.
The second half was very important for the Knicks and they kept fighting through all of the bad shooting. Carmelo Anthony was the main key to the Knicks comeback as he scored points from everywhere on the court. But as the Knicks kept getting closer the Raptors were able to hit big shots. Despite the 35 points and 11 rebounds from Carmelo Anthony the Knicks were unable to get the win.
The bad shots for the Knicks really hampered any chance they had at winning this game. As a team the Knicks attempted 35 threes and made only 10. They can not shoot that poor and expect to win games. The bench production was terrible tonight as the bench scored just ten points. Bill Walker had 7 points, but put up a few terrible shots. His game has to take shots in rhythm and keep the ball moving, once he started to just shoot from behind the arc it really made it tough for a Knicks comeback.
Toney Douglas had a nice second half, but he took way to many shots that broke up the momentum that the Knicks had. His 12 points in the third quarter helped the Knicks get the Raptor lead down. The most important thing about Douglas is that he needs to relax and let the game come to him. He tends to force the issue and at times can hurt the team.
Tonight the Knicks made it tough on themselves and deserved the lost. The Knicks will play the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
