The New England Patriots were looking for their first playoff win in over two years when they faced the Denver Broncos. Tim Tebow was the number one topic coming into the week, but on this night he would fall from the spotlight.
The Patriots came out wanting to win this game, Tom Brady started off the scoring with two touchdown passes. One went to Wes Welker and the other went to Rob Gronkowski. Gillette Stadium was rocking early on as the Patriots jumped out to a 14-0 lead. But the Broncos scored a touchdown to cut the deficit to seven. But the Patriots would then prove that offense can be deadly as they scored four straight touchdowns to get a 42-7 lead at the half. Tom Brady threw six touchdown passes which tied the record for most passing touchdowns in NFL postseason history. Three of the six touchdowns went to Rob Gronkowski. This also tied a NFL postseason record for a tight end as Gronkowski scored three touchdowns.
The Patriots just looked perfect today and proved that the regular season numbers don’t matter. The defense was really perfect in that they were able to keep Denver from running the ball on them. They were really locked in defensively and kept the Broncos from scoring the ball. This is what the Patriots are supposed to do when healthy. This was a great win for a team that deserved it the most. Tim Tebow’s season ended today, but trust me he will be in the playoffs next season.
This game showed that the Patriots are ready to put the past behind them and move forward to the finish line. The Patriots will face the winner of the Texans vs. Ravens game and will host the winner at Gillette Stadium next Sunday.
NFL Records
45 points most in team history (postseason)
509 yards most in team history (postseason)
