The New York Knicks were looking to snap a three game losing streak when they faced the Phoenix Suns tonight. Both teams were on a losing streak and were looking for a win. This game was close throughout, but the Knicks last efforts were in vain as they fell to the Suns 91-88.
This game was led by Amare Stoudemire who scored a team high 23 points. This was by far a better game from Stoudemire then his last few. He was able to get his game going early and really helped with his production. This team needed a better effort from Stoudemire and they were able to get it.
The play of Carmelo Anthony was terrible tonight. Early on in the game Anthony was passing the ball well, but in the second half he forced shots up and missed most of them. He went 5 of 22 from the floor with just 12 points. The Knicks need to get both superstars playing together in a more fluid way. When they are on the floor they almost seem uncomfortable with the play of each other. If the Knicks can work this issue out, they will easily win games.
Iman Shumpert played very well and he was able to let the game come to him. Shumpert scored 20 points and was very influential to the Knicks late rally. He was able to also play great defense as he had four steals. The important thing is that Shumpert shot the ball well and never really forced the action. He will need to continue this play in hopes of turning losses into wins.
Landry Fields came alive tonight as he scored 17 points, dished out 4 assists, and grabbed 6 rebounds. Fields played very well and looked confortable shooting the ball. This is the player the Knicks are hoping can contribute like this consistently.
The play of both Shumpert and Fields were on display tonight, but this lost really hurt the momentum the Knicks were looking to start. Hopefully the Knicks can end this four game losing streak against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday.
