The New York Knicks hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks were hoping to get a win to start off their second half of the season. Quickly the Knicks learned tonight wasn’t going to be easy as the Cavaliers led early and often. At one point the Cavaliers led by 17 points and looked well in control of the game.
The Knicks came out of halftime like a new team and charged back into the game. They closed the third quarter out with all the
momentum and led by two to close out the third quarter. The bench in this game came up big in the second half as Steve Novak scored 17 points to help lift the team up. Novak dominated from three point range as he hit five three pointers. He came up clutch as he scored the key points for the Knicks when their lead was small.
Baron Davis played a huge role in getting the bench scoring opportunities. Davis was able to get 8 assists with the second unit and got everyone involved. The second unit was strong offensively, but their defense was even better. They were able to get the Cavaliers into late shot clock situations that forced them to take bad shots.
Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks in scoring with 22 points. Jeremy Lin scored 19 points and dished out 13 assists tonight. Lin only turned the ball over once tonight and was under control for the most part. Lin and Anthony are slowly getting the chemistry that will make them tough to stop.
Tonight the Knicks had seven players in double figures. They were able to play hard in the second half which allowed them to win this game. This was a excellent team win which can give the Knicks a lift going into Sunday’s game against the Celtics. Shooting 50 % from the floor, the Knicks looked unstoppable in the second half. The Knicks will play the Boston Celtics on Sunday afternoon and that game will test the Knicks, hopefully they can walk out with a win.
The Knicks' D turned it up in the second half. They need to keep this up; their defensive effort has been too inconsistent. They play great D against good teams and just seem to forget how to play D against bad ones.
