The New York Knicks were looking to get another win against the New Jersey Nets tonight. From the start the Knicks looked dominant, but the Nets were able to get back into the game because they were able to get the Knicks in foul trouble. Carmelo Anthony returned to the lineup as he scored just 11 points in his return. Anthony did get 6 assists, but turned the ball over six times in this game. Anthony looked well early on, but he tried to get calls that weren’t there. The referees in this game were horrible and never called this game consistently which led to upset players.
Jeremy Lin had a nice night as he scored 21 points, grabbed a career high 7 rebounds, and dished out 9 assists. He did however play not so good defense tonight on Deron Williams who scored 38 points. But Lin can work on his defensive game and get better. Lin did have four steals, but he was unable to keep the ball out of Williams’ hand.
Amare Stoudemire played strong throughout the game, but his defense was very lackluster. Stoudemire was unable to keep the Nets from getting the offensive boards and didn’t help out on defense. Stoudemire did score 17 points tonight, but it wasn’t enough to get the Knicks past the Nets. The Knicks center Tyson Chandler struggled to stay out of foul trouble which resulted in the Knicks getting beat on the boards. Chandler has to keep a cooled head simply because with the Knicks down by 8 Chandler picked up an unnecessary technical foul that took the Knicks momentum away.
This game was a major disappointment simply because the Knicks fell behind .500 with their record now at 16-17. The Knicks came out with way too much energy and that resulted in them losing this game. Mentally the Knicks have to stay strong and avoid letting the referees dictate the game. The Knicks will now face the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.
