The New York Knicks will face the Dallas Mavericks today at Madison Square Garden. This is the first time the Knicks have played on a Sunday this season. The Knicks are coming off their first lost in the last seven games. That lost stung simply because it was against a terrible team. But today expect the Knicks to rise to the occasion.
Jeremy Lin played well last game, but started very slowly and struggled at times with turnovers. Lin committed 9 turnovers, but he did get under control in the second half as he committed just one turnover. Look for the Amare Stoudemire and Jeremy Lin connection more today. Stoudemire had his best game since returning as he scored 26 points last game. Stoudemire will have his hands full on both ends of the floor having to guard Dirk Nowitzki and fight him off on the offensive end.
Tyson Chandler will be presented his championship ring today before the game. Expect Chandler to play well against his former team. Chandler has played very well for the Knicks this season. He continues to be the much needed force in the paint that the Knicks have lacked for a while. This game means much for Chandler who wants to beat his former team.
It is unclear if JR Smith will play today, but there is a possibility he does. Smith hasn’t practiced with the team so that could be a problem to start with. In other news Carmelo Anthony is unlikely to play tonight with a right groin injury. Anthony has missed plenty of games this season, but the team has looked good without him. But adding Anthony will only bring more success to this team. Lastly, Baron Davis may play before the All-Star break and Davis could make his debut today.
The Dallas Mavericks struggled to start the season, but have found their way to the top of the Western Conference standings. Dirk Nowitzki missed time as he was unable to get in the proper shape to start the season. But he is back and is scoring for the Mavericks again. Expect him to take advantage of Stoudemire on the defensive end. Jason Terry is expected to play after missing games with a quadriceps injury and for personal reasons. Terry can spark the Mavericks to a win and can score 20 points off the bench. The Knicks will need to defend him as close as possible and try to take him out of this game.
The Knicks are hoping to get a win against a good team today. A win today could give the Knicks the confidence to keep playing as a team. This game can be watched on ABC at 1:00 PM. Let’s go Knicks!
