The New York Mets defeated the Houston Astros 8-1 in a very well pitched game by the Mets. R.A. Dickey pitched very good today as he went 6.1 innings allowing just one hit and a run. Dickey did walk three batters, but was able to get out of any kind of trouble. He had his knuckleball working today that resulted in four strikeouts. Dickey is the one guy the Mets are hopeful that can have a great season. Today he looked dominant at times and worked very quick in some innings.
On the offense today the Mets were able to get 8 runs off the Astros pitching. Ruben Tejada started the game off with a leadoff homerun that gave the Mets the early lead. Then in the 7th inning Omar Quintanilla doubled in three runs that gave the Mets a 8-1 lead to give them plenty of breathing room to win the game.
Overall the Mets played a very nice game as they were able to pitch and hit well. Frank Francisco pitched the ninth inning for the Mets as he allowed two hits and a run in his inning of work.
In injury news, David Wright batted for the first time since the injury to his rib cage. Reports are that Wright could possibly play next week if all goes well.
