Mets defeat Nationals 2-0

The Mets beat the Nationals tonight 2-0. The Mets started Dillon Gee who pitched very well today. Gee went 5.2 innings allowing just three hits and a walk. He didn’t allow a run and struck out 4 batters. Gee did an excellent job in controlling his pitches and commanding the strike zone. His ability to get ahead in the count really made his night easy.

At the plate the Mets were able to get a Lucas Duda homerun that gave them a 1-0 lead. Then in the 6th inning Ike Davis singled home a run that gave the Mets a 2-0 lead. The Mets would hold on to the lead from there and would win the game with excellent relief pitching.

Frank Francisco, Chuck James, Jon Rauch, and Bobby Parnell all pitched scoreless baseball. The only one to give up any hits in relief was Frank Francisco who gave up two hits in his inning of work. Combined Mets pitching struck out 8 batters. The relief was much better tonight and looked very solid. The Mets are hopeful that they can be very solid come the start of the season.

On a injury note, Andres Torres left after the 2nd inning with a calf injury. He is day to day.
