Mets fall to Marlins 5-4

The New York Mets took on the Miami Marlins in their fifth game of spring training. Mike Pelfrey took the mound for the first time this spring hoping to show his improvement. Pelfrey started the inning badly as he allowed three straight hits. He gave up 2 runs in the opening inning on 4 hits. He allowed a run in each of his three innings of work today as he struggled to pound the strike zone. Pelfrey gave up four runs today before his day was done. He went 2.3 innings allowing four runs on six hits.

Lucas May started the scoring for the Mets with a two-run double in the first inning. Following that hit by May, Mike Baxter plated him home with a RBI single. The Mets offense looked more fluid to start the game and they took advantage of some bad pitches by Carlos Zambrano.

Adam Loewen tied the game up 4-4 in the fourth inning today. Then in the next inning Frank Francisco gave up a solo homerun to Hanley Ramirez that broke that tie. The Mets went on to lose the game 5-4 after they led after the first inning. The Mets will play the Atlanta Braves in a spit squad game. That game will not be televised.
