The Mets were looking to get their fourth win of the Spring as they took on the Marlins. Johan Santana made his second start of the spring as he looked for another nice outing. Santana went 2.2 innings allowing two hits while striking out two batters. Santana pitched very well today as he threw 42 pitches.
The rain caused this game to be called early, but the Mets had some positive signs to take away from today’s game. Lucas May continues to swing a hot bat as he had a very nice double, his second of spring. Also Adam Loewen went 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored. Loewen continues to impress with his ability to take the ball to the opposite field. If he can keep up this effort he could possibly be a backup outfielder the Mets could use while Scott Hairston rests his oblique.
On the downside Jon Rauch continues to give up hits and runs. He went an inning allowing three runs on four hits. Rauch has struggled to find any consistency this spring and he is looking very hittable. This is spring so Rauch has plenty of time to get his pitching right.
The Mets will play the Detroit Tigers tomorrow afternoon. That game will not be televised.
