The New York Mets will play in their eighth game of the spring as they go up against the Miami Marlins for the third time. The Mets are coming off a lost to the Washington Nationals in which they lost 8-2. R.A. Dickey started that game and really struggled as he went 3.0 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits.
But today will be the second start for Mets ace Johan Santana. This spring is really huge for Santana who is trying to come back from season ending surgery in 2010 which caused him to miss the entire 2011 season. The Mets have much riding on Santana this season, hoping that he can provide wins for the team every time he’s called upon.
The Mets announced yesterday that David Wright will miss the next week as he continues to rest his back. Wright hasn’t played a game this spring and seems to be a ways from returning to the field. Wright missed time last season with a back injury after making a diving tag on Carlos Lee. The Mets are trying to be patient with his injury hoping to keep it from getting worst this season.
The Mets are expected to pitch the following pitchers today: Johan Santana, Jeurys Familia, Chris Schwinden, Jon Rauch, Manny Acosta, Josh Stinson, Chuck James.
