The New York Knicks played a very tough team in the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night. This game was very disappointing game from the Knicks standpoint. They trailed the entire game and defensively they struggled to stop anything the Spurs did.
The Knicks were without Tyson Chandler and Jared Jeffries tonight. Chandler suffered a hamstring injury in practice Monday. Jeffries never played in the second half of last night’s game because of a sore right knee. They were missed in the paint as the Knicks were lost on all of their assignments. As a team they never were able to play consistent defense which really made it tough to win.
Offensively the Knicks made huge strides as Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points. Anthony looked much better shooting the ball tonight. The Knicks were able to get Amare Stoudemire involved as well, he scored 18 points and
grabbed 11 rebounds. Both players looked better offensively tonight, but defensively they were awful. They weren’t boxing their men out and they never tried to help their teammates when they were beat defensively. They have to get better on the defensive end because every night they will be unable to outscore teams.
Jeremy Lin scored 20 points, but the Spurs really pressured him anytime he went into the painted area. Lin hasn’t been himself over the course of the last week. He seems to be thinking way too much and it is hindering his output.
This game proves yet again that the Knicks are not ready for the big stage simply because their defense is lackluster. Even with Chandler the Knicks play very inconsistent defense and it all starts with their two star players. This season can get away from them if their not careful. As a team they have to regroup and play harder. They seem to be just out on the floor going through the motions of the game without wanting to put up and effort until they are trailing by double digits.
The Knicks will now have to play the Milwaukee Bucks Friday night and if they aren’t careful they will lose that game as well.
