The New York Mets came into this game trying to rebound from their lost last night to the Braves. But they would get blown out in this game. R.A. Dickey lasted just 4.1 innings today allowing 8 runs on 8 hits. Dickey allowed a season high 3 homeruns and walked 2 batters. This was a very disappointing start by Dickey who had a streak of 13 straight quality starts going, but today saw that streak come crashing down. The Mets have had two really bad starts by their starting pitchers back to back. It will be very interesting to see how Jon Niese pitches Friday night.
The Mets offense started out good today as they gave Dickey the lead a couple of times, but Dickey was never able to stop the Braves from plating across runs. Ike Davis started the scoring for the Mets as he clubbed his third homerun in the 2nd inning. But that was really the only excitement the Mets had today. The Mets offense was able to score 6 runs today, but those runs really never kept up with the terrible pitching performance by the pitching staff. The bullpen wasn’t good in this game either as they allowed 6 runs to score.
This was yet another game the Mets have to put behind them and move on. Everything about this game was bad including the weather. The Mets are now 7-5 on the season and are now even with the Braves in the division standings. The Mets will face the Giants on Friday night to start a four game series. They will have an off day tomorrow to reflect on a poor two games. The Mets went 2-4 on this road trip.
