The NBA had downgraded the flagrant 2 foul to a flagrant 1 on JR Smith. They also announced that Smith will not face suspension. Smith and Leandro Barbosa were tied up, with Barbosa holding Smith’s arm down. Smith then swung Barbosa to the floor thus leading to his ejection. At the time it seemed as if Smith would get suspended, but after looking at the replay there was clear evidence that saw Barbosa holding Smith’s arm down.
Mike Woodson though the play should have been a double foul, but later said that he and the Knicks were going to teach Smith how to be more professional. Smith has been unprofessional at times this season, but this is the player he is. The Knicks will have to try to keep him from losing control because that will hurt the team.
