The New York Knicks handed the Bobcats their 23rd consecutive loss tonight in a 104-84 win. The Knicks rested Tyson Chandler, Carmelo Anthony, and Baron Davis. Toney Douglas also missed the game due to illness.
This game was close in the first half, but in the second half the Knicks were able to open this game up. The Knicks were led by JR Smith for the second consecutive night as Smith poured in 22 points. Smith continues to play really hard for this team and if he can continue his efforts he may just help the team win some games in the playoffs.
Amare Stoudemire wanted to play tonight to keep himself in the rhythm of playing and tonight was very effective. Stoudemire scored 21 points through the first three quarters and made some very hard dunks. At one point tonight Stoudemire was able to dunk over Tyrus Thomas which is very good considering his back troubles. This was a nice effort from Stoudemire tonight as he continues to make improvements this season.
The Knicks had a great effort from Mike Bibby tonight as he dished out 12 assists. Bibby scored just 3 points, but he was able to set the offensive rhythm that allowed the Knicks to blow out the Bobcats. He has to bring this effort out in the playoffs and help the Knicks get some wins against the Heat.
With tonight’s win over the Bobcats the Knicks clinch the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference standings. In that spot the Knicks will take on the Miami Heat the 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks will have their hands full, but for tonight the Knicks can rest up for their big game on Saturday in Miami.
Josh Harrellson started at the power forward spot tonight and he scored a career high 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Harrellson hopefully will get some type of playing time in the postseason because he can spread the floor and rebound the ball. This was a nice win to close out the season for the Knicks as they continue to move closer to Saturday to face the Miami Heat.
