The New York Mets faced the Atlanta Braves for the second game of a three game series. This game had excellent pitching from the Mets. From the start R.A. Dickey kept the Braves hitters off
balance with his excellent knuckleball. His only mistake came on a two run homerun from Martin Prado in the fifth inning. But Dickey would remain in line for the win after his six innings of work. Dickey allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts in today’s start against the Braves. Dickey pitched very well today despite not having the best command. Today was the prime example of how good Dickey is, even when his best pitch isn’t working the way he wants it. Dickey earned today’s win and this is a nice way to start his season.
The hitting for the Mets was on display as they clubbed three homeruns. David Wright started the homerun barrage today as he hit a solo shot in the first inning. Wright continues to swing a hot bat as he went 3 for 5 in today’s game. Lucas Duda had his first career multi homerun game today as he hit two solo homeruns in the 4th and 7th inning. Duda hit the ball really well today as he went 2 for 4. This was a very good day for the Mets batters. Collectively the Mets accumulated 13 hits today including 4 extra base hits.
The pitching from the bullpen was phenomenal, Bobby Parnell, Jon Rauch, and Frank Francisco all had scoreless outings today. The bullpen has been great so far this season and today they showed that they could do it for another day. This season has started very well for the Mets. So far the pitching has been much better than expected. The Mets will look for the series sweep series against the Braves tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 PM. The Mets are now 2-0 this season and this start looks very good right now.
