Mets defeat Braves 6-1

The New York Mets took on the Atlanta Braves tonight at Turner Field. The Mets were coming off a lost to the Phillies and tonight looked to get a win against another division rival.

Dillon Gee started for the Mets and pitched a very good game. Gee went seven strong innings allowing just one run on four hits. Tonight Gee used all of his pitches and it worked to his advantage. He collected five strikeouts tonight and walked just one batter. This was a very well pitched game by Gee. At one point Gee had runners on third and second and was able to get out of a huge jam. Tonight Gee showed that he can be very good if he can command all of his pitches.

The Mets fell down by one run, but in the 3rd inning tied the game on a Ruben Tejada groundout. The Mets offense was held in check for the most part, but in the 6th inning that changed. Ike Davis hit a three-run homerun to give the Mets a 4-1 lead. This was the second consecutive game that Davis has homered. It seems that Davis is finally getting his power hits and tonight Davis put a charge into his homerun.

In the 7th inning the Mets were able to get an additional run on a wild pitch by Tommy Hanson. Then in the ninth inning Jason Bay led the inning off with his second homerun of the season to extend the Mets lead to 6-1. This was the second homerun for Bay this season and that homerun was hit to the deepest part of the park. The Mets showed the power tonight and hit some very long homeruns.

Jon Rauch pitched an inning of relief and allowed just one hit in that inning. Rauch continues to have a very successful start to his season. This was a nice win for the Mets to start their series against the Braves. Tim Byrdak came in for the ninth inning and was able to get the job done to seal the deal for the Mets. As the season goes on it is very important for the Mets bullpen to be good and tonight they were able to close the door for the Mets.

This series will continue tomorrow night as the Mets try to get another win against their division foes. Again the Mets won this game 6-1 and continue to have an excellent start to their season.
