In a game dominated by pitching tonight the Mets were able to get through the game with a win. After 6.2 innings from Johan Santana the Mets were able to get a run on a bases loaded walk to Josh Thole. The bad part about that run was that it came after Santana was replaced by Ramon Ramirez. Santana pitched a brilliant game, but was unable to get his first win of the season. The 11 strikeouts was the most by Santana since 2010. This effort tonight was really needed from a Mets starter. Santana kept the Mets in the game and that effort allowed the Mets to comeback and win.
The Mets took their first lead of the game in the 8th inning on a Lucas Duda RBI infield single. That was the first hit by Duda in the game and it couldn’t of come at a bigger time. The Mets struggled to score runs yet again, but somehow were able to walk away with the win. Hopefully now the Mets can build some momentum to carry through the rest of the series.
This game also marked the return of SS Jose Reyes to Citi Field after he signed with the Marlins in the off season. Reyes went 0-4 in his return and seemed very aggressive at the plate.
Frank Francisco walked a batter in the ninth inning, but was able to get through the inning without allowing a run to get his 4th save of the season. Jon Rauch got the win tonight after pitching a clean 8th inning.
